The next day was a long day in the van; we were heading for another boardercrossing to
Utah and a little bit further to Moab and the Arches. It was a really hot day so after we had arrived to Moab we put up our tents and then quickly ran off for a swim in the Colorado River which felt sooooo good. |

That first night in Moab we experienced our first and only storm. Since the
area is mostly covered with sand we had sand almost everywhere inside our tents after the
storm was over. We had sand in our sleeping bags, in our backpacks and clothes and not to
forget in our hair and mouths. Some time during the night I thought the tent was going to
take off because of the hard winds. The Japanese girl Junko whom I was sharing tent with was a little bit scared at the time, but me, I was thrilled. The power of nature and weather has always excited me. |
|
The following days we went hiking among the beutifully cliff formations; The Arches.
We were hiking here for two days trying to cover it all and I think we did a good job. |
![]() We climbed up to take a groupphoto on one the many Arches. |
![]() The Delicate Arch. (Which one? Both of them???) | Of course we also had to climb up to the place where the Delicate Arch are and it was quite fasinating and not to mention the view of some snowy mountains in the north. Exellent hike. |
|
We had such beautifully weather these two days, the sun was shining and it was quite hot so we needed to drink a lot of water.
Me crazy as I am didn't take any notice of this and I thought I needed some more exercise, so I ran down from the Delicate Arch......! Believe me when I say I needed a shower after that. |

After a couple of days in Moab we drove to Antimony, still in Utah, to spend a night at a real cowboy Ranch. This place was located in a very beautifully enviroment and we enjoyed our stay here very much. |
| We did some horsebackriding again, some of us went out twice. |

......and could watch how the cowboys were working at the ranch. |
|
We also learned how to do linedancing in the evening with
some of the cowboys at the ranch and it was a lot of fun. Our Trek-leader Chris also had his birthday when we were here so he bought some champagne to us to celebrate. |

One of us did also experience a lovestory
with a cowboy at the ranch, which happens all the time, but I wont tell You which one in
the group........I believe she would like to be anonymous. Our Aussie girl Melissa wrote a song about it though, which that poor cowboy had to listen to when we all sang it to him when we were leaving the Ranch: When a girl loves a cowboy: They dance in the bars, When a girl loves a cowboy: They look at the stars, When a girl loves a cowboy: They're holding their hands, When a girl loves a cowboy: They roll in the sand, When a girl loves a cowboy: They hold hands where they lay, When a girl loves a cowboy: They sleep in the hay, When a girl loves a cowboy: Does he take of his spurs, When a girl loves a cowboy: Does she take off hers, When a girl leaves her cowboy under the clear Utah sky, They'll be touching goodbye! |

Bryce National Park.

Well, after the Ranch experiences we went further on to Bryce National Park. We spent a day here hiking among the strange cliff formations that looked like some kind of moon landscape. |
|
The Bryce hiking was really beautifully and it was still warm and sunny. I could compare this to when I went here at wintertime a few years later. On my National Parks Walk Trek in 1999, when it was crispy cold and snowy. ....and then we drove to Zion NP. | ![]() Me at the Bryce Canyon. |

Zion NP, what a beautifully place. High mountains, valleys and rivers. We did some hikes here and the most scary one was when we hiked up to the top of a mountain. The mountain top is called Angels Landing. |
|
When we were almost at the top we suddenly had to go on narrow paths along the mountainside and only a chain to hold
on to.
I didn't make it to Angels Landing since my knees and legs were shaking like never before. I am a bit scared of heights, but I wasn't the only one so I wasn't ashamed of that. Maybe next time. I did actually come back here again on my National Parks Walk Trek in 1999. Did I make the Angels Landing this time.....Nope, I didn't! | ![]() Me with the trail to Angels Landing to the left in Zion National Park. |

The next day we hiked in the river, The Virgin River.
Yes, you heard right. There is a part of the river where it's only a few feet deep and it's called The Narrow. We put on our sandals,swim-suits and shorts and went out hiking in the water for a day, took long brakes just sitting there watching the area in the sun. It was brilliant. |
|
When we got as far as we could go in The Narrow we stopped and had a brake at a sandy beach.
This hike is some of the most memorable I had done and I bought a big poster at the Zion NP visitor center later that day that is hanging on my wall at home to remind me of this remarkable hike. (this photo is hanging there as well) | ![]() Me hiking in the river of The Narrow in Zion National Park. |
Nevada.
Las Vegas.
![]() Our Las Vegas Limousine. |
So came the last day. It's strange how fast 14 days can pass when you are having such a great
time. We drove to Nevada and Las Vegas.
We spent the day exploring the town, looking at all the strange hotels looking like pyramids, castles, palaces etc. In the evening we put on our nice clothes and went out for the evening starting with renting a couple of limousines bought some Champagne and drove around town for an hour. |
| .....just looking on all these strange places, wedding chapels; we saw long streets full of them. |

Las Vegas is like a big playground and and I believe we wanted to cover it all before we left it.
We had a really fun night together. |
| .......after the Limo ride we visited a few bars and of course spent a few dollars in the gambling machines, but just a few......eeehhhh sort of. |
![]() Janet and Julia loosing a few bucks at one of the many casinos in Las Vegas. |

....it got kind of late before we headed home to our Las Vegas hotel but we had such fun, so we didn't want it to end.
The next morning we were off for Los Angeles and our sad goodbyes. |
California.
Back in Los Angeles - The Farewell Party.
|
Well, we got back to Los Angeles the next day and were not quite finished with our farewell parties.
There is a Kareoke bar just a block away from the Trek hotel and we went there later in the evening to have our farewell party. | ![]() Pam, Julia and Janet at the the farewell party in Los Angeles. |
![]() Karen, Ileana, Chris and Paul at the farewell party at the Kareoke Bar. | This Kareoke bar is a meeting place for Trek groups and here we met up with many other groups that were either starting a Trek or finishing one. |
|
It's amazing what good friendship you can get after such a short time as 14 days. I believe though this is just what the Trek-thing do..... | ![]() Craigh, Mary and myself having a toast at the farewell party. |
![]() Melissa, Pat and Junko having a really good time at the farewell party. |
....you live together with a bunch of, to start up with, strangers from all over the world.
But after just a few days it is like you have known each other for years. |
| Later in the evening the Kareoke thing started and there was great deal of brave people getting up on stage to sing. |
![]() No chance any of us would go up on stage, we did a good job anayway, singing like crazy. |
![]() No chance any of us would go up on stage, we did a good job anayway, singing like crazy. |
No one in our group got up on stage to sing but we did sing together with those who did
and we sang like crazy and had a lot of fun.
I believe we all had some problems talking the day after. |
|
We spent the whole evening at the bar and even though it had gotten quite late that evening before in Las Vegas,
noone was tired at all.
So it sure did get late again before we headed back to the hotel...again we didn't want it to end. Unfortunately it always does......but let me assure you, you go home with great memories. |

Conclusion.
|
After experience my first Trek I knew I would definitely go for it again. I made friends
for the rest of my life and got to do what I love most, spend time outdoors in the wilderness
of North America.
This was also the beginning of The Rocky Mountaineer's of 1995 friendship. Almost half of this group went on the next years Trek together so the Indian Trail started up a friendship quite unique. So if You are thinking about doing a Trek, don't hesitate, go for it and I promise You will have the time of your life. The day after the Trek had ended, four of us; Australia, Japan, Italy and Sweden represented; Melissa, Junko, Ileana and myself went to Disneyland together and had the time of our life. |
